At Plaza Grande Hotel we highlight Quito’s most ancient and rooted traditions and convert them into unique experiences for our guests. Holy Week and Easter are a good opportunity to blend two of these traditions. “Helados de Paila” are an ancestral way of preparing exotic Ecuadorian fruit juices stirred with crushed ice on large bronze pans, turning them into delicious and savory Sherbets. At our Hotel, these are a signature dessert which is served by a “Cucurucho”, a character from our Spanish heritage that leads Good Friday’s religious processions dressed in large purple gowns crowned by a tall purple bonnet in signal of penance for their sins.


Café Plaza Grande hides an atmosphere full of culinary pleasures typical of the Quito of yesteryear and the unique flavors of Ecuadorian cuisine.
